SHIPPING & EXTRA COSTS

Illustrative budgets

What else should I budget for?

Beyond your products, allow for shipping and any import or delivery charges not included in your quote. These examples help you understand the scale of those costs.

All amounts are illustrative, not formal quotes, and apply only to the routes and services shown. Ocean freight rates can change from month to month. Final costs can only be confirmed after discussing your requirements with our team and checking current logistics rates.

SUPPLIER QUOTE EXAMPLE

for one sample parcel

Reference shipping rate

How it is charged
Chargeable weight × rate + parcel fee

Shipping only. Samples, custom printing and any import taxes are separate; tax inclusion was not confirmed in this reference.

A previous US YunExpress ETSY special-service quote used CNY 94/kg + CNY 12/parcel in the 2 < W ≤ 30 kg band. This is a historical channel example, not a worldwide offer or confirmation of current eligibility.

Use the greater of packed gross weight and length × width × height (cm) ÷ 8,000, subject to service rounding. Other services may use a different divisor.

2.659 kg × CNY 94 + CNY 12 ≈ CNY 261.95 ≈ US$39.07, rounded to US$40 for planning. The one-off discount on the original shipment is not assumed for future parcels.

Stock samples show materials and print finishes. Samples printed with your own design require a separate sampling quotation.

Sea freight · shared container

Shanghai → Hamburg · Germany example

THIRD-PARTY PLANNING RANGE · SEP 2026

US$60–95

per m³ · ocean freight only

Destination handling & import broker
+ US$140–350 per shipment
3 m³ extra beyond FOB, before delivery & tax
US$320–635 for the listed items

Additional costs beyond FOB, NOT a door-to-door total. Final delivery, duty, VAT and exceptional charges are extra. This Germany example is not a US or Swiss rate.

What is included in this example?

SinoShipment's September 2026 guide gives Shanghai–Hamburg ocean freight of US$60–95/m³. It is third-party budget guidance, not a current booking quote or Diningprint price.

The extra per-shipment allowance combines destination handling (US$60–150) and import broker clearance (US$80–200): US$140–350. The guide's origin handling/documentation allowance of US$80–150 is not added here: agreed FOB origin costs are already in the product quote.

3 m³ illustration beyond FOB: 3 × US$60–95 + US$140–350 = US$320–635. Excludes final delivery, insurance, duty/VAT and any inspection, storage or other exceptional charges.

This example assumes volume-based charging. Heavy cargo may be charged by weight instead. Minimums and the forwarder's itemized quotation apply; other lanes require separate quotes.

Sea freight · full container

Shanghai → Rotterdam · Netherlands example

DATED MARKET REFERENCE · 1 OCT 2026

≈ US$3,400

per standard 40 ft container · port-to-port reference

Shanghai → Los Angeles reference
≈ US$7,800 / standard 40 ft
How it is charged
Container count × route / container rate

NOT delivered or tax-paid prices. Destination transport, import clearance and other unincluded destination charges are extra. Do not add origin costs already covered by FOB.

About these container references

Drewry's 1 October 2026 assessment was US$3,399 Shanghai–Rotterdam and US$7,835 Shanghai–Los Angeles per standard 40 ft container. These rounded, dated benchmarks are not our quotations.

The reference is container-yard to container-yard. Inland transport, clearance, booking and documentation are excluded; terminal-handling inclusion varies by lane. Add only charges not already included in your FOB product quote or freight quote.

20 ft, 40 ft and 40 ft high-cube equipment need separate quotes. Do not scale these rates by volume or treat them as Basel, UK or other inland delivery prices.

What might still be extra?

Check the delivery terms on your quote. Do not add an item twice if it is already included.

Import VAT & duty

Destination-specific

Standard VAT examples: Germany 19%, UK 20%, Switzerland 8.1%. VAT applies to the legal import-tax base, which can include freight and duty—not just product price. Applicable rates and duty depend on the goods and destination.

Delivery to your address

Quoted for your postcode

The sea examples exclude final delivery. Allow for that leg and any unincluded import clearance or destination charges. Inspection, storage or special delivery may cost extra if required.

DDP · delivered, duty paid

One agreed delivered quotation

DDP is not a flat extra fee. In an agreed DDP quote, transport, import clearance and applicable duties/taxes to the named destination are in the seller's scope. Do not add those items again. Door delivery alone does not mean DDP.

We will confirm the extras before you order.

Send your products, quantities and delivery postcode. We will itemize goods, shipping and any additional services—you do not need to calculate the cartons yourself.

Reference dates, sources & exchange rates

Reviewed 6 October 2026. Sample figures come from a previous supplier quotation; the YunExpress link explains quoting, not that historical tariff. Sea figures are third-party planning ranges or dated benchmarks, not guaranteed rates. Other destinations are quoted separately.

Sample USD conversions use ECB reference rates dated 5 October 2026: EUR 1 = USD 1.1204 = CNY 7.5118 (about CNY 6.7046 per USD). Illustrative conversions, not a settlement exchange rate.
